What We Offer

From Girls in Conversation to Girls in Community, you can learn all about our events and offerings here!

Girls in Conversation

What?

Friday Night Film Chats (FNFC’s) provide a supportive space for girls, ages 12 – 17, to engage modern culture and relevant life issues through film, entertainment, media, and music, and to develop new friendships through fun, inspired discussion.

Where?

FNFC’s are hosted in homes in Port Washington and Manhasset, New York on a semi-monthly basis throughout the school year.

Why?

Because Inspired Girls identify and confront disempowering societal messages and transform the world into a more affirming environment for girls of all ages.

How?

Each FNFC focuses on one issue in contemporary culture as it relates to women and girls.  Past topics include: the portrayal of women and girls in film, television, popular music, advertising, music videos, journalism and media.  Through dinner conversation and hands-on activities, girls are encouraged to discover commonality, affirm diversity, challenge stereotypes, and live empowered, abundant lives.

Girls in Community

What?

Girl Inspired offers ongoing intergenerational and interreligious events that raise awareness about social issues and cultivate community among women and girls of diverse backgrounds.

Where?

All along the North Shore of Long Island, NY—in churches, bookstores, libraries, and coffee shops.

Why?

Because Inspired Girls are “in the know” and care about issues that affect women and girls around the world.  Inspired Girls find support from other women and girls as they live into their authentic selves and advocate for the flourishing of all people.

How?

Inspired Girls begin each year with our annual Commissioning ceremony, during which we set healthy goals and intentions for the New Year, receive a personal blessing, and are inspired by the reflections of spiritual leaders from our community.  Each spring, Girl Inspired hosts a multi-generational retreat for women and girls of all faith backgrounds to creatively explore pressing issues for females around the world.  Past retreat themes include body image and the plight of girls in developing countries.  We are also developing a series of coffee shop discussions at local bookstores on relevant educational topics, controversial current events, and influential publications.

Girls in Service

What?

Girl Inspired seeks to encourage young girls and women to use their creativity, knowledge and influence to make a positive difference in the lives of others.  Through varied service opportunities and projects, Girl Inspired educates girls and young women about the vast needs in our world.

Where?

Girl Inspired partners with organizations and local churches both in New York City and on Long Island.  Service opportunities and projects are planned throughout the year, offering girls varied experiences in serving others.

Why?

Girl Inspired believes that all people deserve healthy, whole, abundant lives.  Girl Inspired seeks to inspire girls to experience fullness of life through helping and serving the most undeserved people in our world.

How?

Girl Inspired organizes service days, continuing projects and one day retreats that center around specific needs or issues.  Through these events, Girl Inspired seeks to empower young girls to use their influence to create positive change for all.

Girls Supported

What?

Girl Inspired believes that all girls deserve a chance to succeed.  Girl Inspired awards a scholarship to one graduating high school senior each year.  Girls applying for the scholarship submit a 500 word essay on a specific topic given by the Girl Inspired board of directors.  One young woman will be awarded and recognized during a special Girl Inspired event.

Where?

Girl Inspired encourages girls from all over the United States to apply. There are no geographical limitations for the scholarship applicant.

Why?

Girl Inspired believes that all girls deserve an abundant life involving the best possible education.

How?

Girl Inspired offers a 500 word essay contest for applicants each year.  The topic is selected by the Girl Inspired Board of Directors and will be announced in September.  Application deadlines are January 1.  All high school senior girls are encouraged to apply.
